The Rock (JM-33810)

The Rock (JM-33810)

This lone rock sits alongside a small stream in Wisconsin’s Rocky Arbor State Park, located a short distance from the hustle and bustle of Wisconsin Dells. Eons ago, the Wisconsin River carved a path through the ancient sandstone and left this picturesque gorge with many beautiful rock ledges and one lone rock where the river once flowed. The river changed course and is now located about a mile and a half away. One wonders whether the rock was carved by the river and left behind or did it tumble down from the ledge above … and how did those pines get established on top of the rock, and how do they keep growing, and how old are they …and, and… Many questions arise as one gazes at The Rock.
