Rain Forest (JM-12132)

Trees are usually festooned with massive amounts of moss in the temperate rain forests of Washington's Olympic National Park. This clump of mossy old-growth conifers was spotted along the Maple Glade Nature Trail in the Quinault River valley on a soggy late summer day. This area receives an average of 12 feet of rain per year, so trees, moss and ferns provide a lush environment and a unique experience for the rainy-day visitor.
